ECRI: ECONOMY TO SLOW BY MID-YEAR

The ECRI is reiterating their call for a slow-down in the economy by mid-year.  Their latest reading on the Weekly Leading Indicator showed no change from the prior week’s reading of 128.4.  More alarming, however, is the continuing decline in the growth rate of the index.  Annualized growth slowed for the 11th consecutive week to 14.9% from last week’s reading of 17%.   This is the lowest reading since last Summer.  ECRI Managing Director Lakshman Achuthan says the slow-down is all but certain now:

“The decline in WLI growth to a 28-week low reinforces our earlier expectation that economic growth would begin to ease by mid-year.”
