MMT 101 – The Very Basics
I’ve had a lot of requests for a more basic approach to MMT. My primer has grown over time and become more and more complex – almost to the point where the novice investor has trouble understanding it. So, I decided to break things down a little bit using video. My hope is that I’ve overcome the most basic hurdle in MMT which is the household vs government analogy and this myth that the balance sheets of the two can be compared. This video primer is broken up into sections that currently cover the basics of MMT, currency user vs. currency issuers, horizontal and vertical transactions, sectoral balances and the true constraint for an autonomous currency issuer – inflation and what it really is.
This is the start of what will ultimately become a complete video section on a beginner’s guide to MMT. I hope you’ll please bear in mind that video is only a supplement and a building block to a much better understanding. MMT requires much more effort than an hour worth of videos. Nonetheless, I hope the videos help elaborate and clarify some of the subjects that are generally confusing. Thanks.
