Site Redesign & Looking Ahead

So, I finally redesigned the site with the help of some great people.  The old format had been substantially tweaked and twisted by yours truly to the point of making it incredibly slow and practically useless.  So I scrapped it and started all over again.  But the new site is still a work in progress to some degree.  So I need your help.  Martin T already made a great suggestion for a section on “Investment Wisdom”, but I have a feeling there are a lot of things that readers would like to see.  After all, I write the site so we can all interact and engage each other while trying to learn.  So if you don’t like the site then it’s no good to me either.  Suggestions and comments would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks as always.

I like being able to read your posts through Google Reader, and I noticed I can’t anymore.

    • Tradeking13 says:

Yeah, the RSS feeds show truncated posts. Would be nice if they were full posts as before.

    • Jerry says:

Ditto. The redesign looks great, but I often read on the bus after downloading the feed, and now the posts are all truncated. I was really disappointed on my commute this morning. :-)

  2. Bond Vigilante says:

Certainly a sleak design. I didn’t believe my eyes.

  3. DJ says:

Its a cool new design. One request: can the RSS feed contain the entire post (and not just a snippet) like it was before. So that we can view the entire post in the RSS reader itself? Thanks!

  4. TB says:

Your RSS feed now truncates the posts. Previously I could read the entire article inside my RSS reader.

  5. CIRRUS says:

Hey, nice move with the redesign, Cullen. Looks great. Not such a big change that anyone will be put off, either. Of course, it’s ultimately about the content. Thanks for the good work.

  6. Alex says:

I also have the RSS issue in Google Reader. Would be nice to have that fixed…

  7. walden says:

wish you listed the names of the authors of the 4 articles that go horizontally at the top of the page. I like to know who wrote an article before I click on it (saves precious nanoseconds).

  8. El Viejo says:

Like it, but how did you find the time???

  9. Sigi says:

+1 to the request for making full posts available through RSS again.

Apart from that, the new design is an improvement. The images linked above (e.g. http://imgcdn.nrelate.com/image_cache/pragcap.com/293364946cd7e4b059606badc2c17162_thumb_pragcap.png) are not visible for me, though.

Too much wasted vertical space in the header. It’s an issue for those with smaller screens (i.e., laptops)

    • hangemhi says:

adding onto that – i’m confused as to what/why the top two sections are on the main page… and that the most recent articles start so low. that’s a LOT of space before you see the most recent article. I’d suggest killing one of those two sections… that and making your Header more narrow would accomplish TK13′s goal too

also, like so many other sites these days i’d love to see commenter profiles – similar to SeekingAlpha

plus subscribe to comments like MR.com

  11. Cullen Roche says:

RSS must be a theme setting. Thx for pointing it out.

  12. JB says:

Full feed would be welcomed. I dont read articles from reader, because i prefer to see discussion. But I want to have a quick view about every article.

  13. hangemhi says:

I just noticed the Comments widget on the right doesn’t say what article is being commented on as it did before… I do like the little snippet, but without a subscribe to comments service I’d rather know which article is being commented on. In an ideal world we’d see both a comment snippet and which article – as well as a much longer list of recent comments… the last 20 or 25 rather than just the last 5

  14. larger font needed in the comments section please !

  15. Kobayachi says:

Nice remodeling… need some time to get used to it but so far… I like ;-)

Would be nice to be able to upload charts/pictures in the comment section.

  16. Eagle-Eye says:

There doesn’t appear to be a ‘home’ button or a tab that would take the reader back to recent posts. Am I missing something?

  17. poly Poly says:

Very nice Cullen, love the new site.

You should consider a Logo redesign too.

  18. Alex H says:

I think there should be a slightly smaller font for the headline on the home page

  19. Erica says:

    lookin sharp!

  20. Pierce Inverarity Pierce Inverarity says:

Could you add bylines to the rotator articles?

  21. Frenchy says:

    looks great good job Cullen

  22. rhp says:

I would like a “HOME” button like before, altho’ i think i can navigate w/o one to the current articles…..

  23. Colin, S.Toe says:

In the top section of featured articles, any way to get a continuous update on the # of comments?

Also second hangemhi’s request for giving the article in ‘most recent comments’ segment.

  24. Ted says:

Looks good. Still waiting on that “latest algo reading” link though…;)

    • Cullen Roche says:

I trimmed some of my longs last Friday, but it’s still generally bullish. I’ll likely be 100% cash in the next few weeks or so. So the easy money has been made in my opinion.

  25. Agg says:

The white background in the posts was easier on the eye. Although the new light gray background looks good, it contrasts less with the black text, graphs, etc. I believe, it would be a good idea if the background switched to white once the post headers are clicked and opened.

  26. Kori says:

wow, congrats the new look is very sharp indeed

  27. Bond Vigilante says:

The more I look at it the more I dislike it. But I don’t think my opinion counts here.

    • Cullen Roche says:

You’re most likely struggling with the change in perspective. It would be similar to believing that the USA is bankrupt or on the verge of hyperinflation and then reading about how the monetary system works and then concluding that you hate the “new” perspective. :-)

  28. Colin, S.Toe says:

I tend to be change averse (my ‘conservative’ instincts), but after a little time to adjust: +1

(In particular, pages seem to load much faster.)

  29. Dennis says:

This improvement looks great to me. Question, there are a couple of people that use “Dennis”. How can I add my picture?
