Forget about saying they are talking down the market please. It is their opinion of the facts as they see them. One of the greatest investors ever ( as noted by TPC), Richard Russell kept his clients out of the market for two years in similar circumstances. Comstock,Hussman, Russell and numerous others are beginning to document that it is easier and safer to make big money by avoiding big losses. They do not want to be in the market when the risks are higher than the potential rewards. That does not mean that you can't be in and make money in those periods, it just means that a very high percentage of the folks in that market ( 80% or more) will end up losing huge.

Comstock Partner has been sitting on the sidelines all year. Of course, they hope for a waterfall decline. Everyone only talks their book. Those who are 100% invested since 2007, like Ken Fisher, talk of nothing but "via la V". Those who completely sat out the equity rally like David Rosenberg and Comstock Partners try to talk the market down.

I am not saying that Comstock's assessment of the economy is wrong.
