It’s Martin Luther King Jr day here in the US so what better way to celebrate than with one of the many quotes from MLK himself? One of my personal favorites has always been this one about education. He said:
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”
I’ve always taken that quote to heart. This site isn’t purely educational, but a lot of the material provided here is intended to be educational. But not just that. It’s intended to make people think intensively and critically. A lot of people think that “learning” is all about cramming your head full of ideas. That’s partially true, but learning is also about understanding how to think critically about the things you think you already know. It’s about challenging convention wisdom with an open-mind and an eagerness to challenge your own understandings.
