American investors have been spoiled this year. Many of us probably don’t even realize how good returns have been relative to the rest of the world. But they’ve been really good.
At 15%, the YTD return of the S&P 500 is head and shoulders above most other global equity markets. In fact, it’s put many to shame. That 15% is a full 41% higher than the Brazilian equity market, 18% higher than the Italian market, 28.7% higher than the Chinese equity market and 16% higher than the Dow Jones ex-USA index.
I guess you could say it’s good be an American. For now….
