Truck tonnage rose 1.7% in September according to the American Trucking Association. On a year over year basis the index climbed 5.1%. Tonnage is up 6.1% in 2010. ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello says the data is consistent with a very weak economy:
“While I am glad to report that tonnage grew in September, the fact remains that truck freight volumes leveled off over the summer and early autumn. This is a reflection of an economy that is barely growing.”
